Chepstow House
Located in the Pembridge Conservation Area, Chepstow House involves the sensitive refurbishment and extension of a four-storey early Victorian terraced house, transforming the property into a contemporary family home while respecting the architectural character of its historic setting.
The project introduces a new basement level, carefully integrated within the existing fabric of the building to expand the living accommodation and improve the flow of spaces throughout the house.
At the heart of the design is a sculptural cantilevered stone staircase that winds elegantly down into the new basement level. Conceived as both a functional circulation route and a defining architectural feature, the stair creates a visual and spatial connection between the entrance lobby and the principal family living areas below. Natural light is drawn deep into the plan, allowing the stairwell to act as a vertical spine that links the home’s levels while giving the lower ground spaces a sense of openness and calm.
