Bluebell Wood is a two acre site in the Wentworth Estate, Surrey. The client approached us to create a modern interpretation of a traditional pitched roof country home, where they could enjoy an outdoor lifestyle in the warmer months of the year.
We designed a more traditional form for the front façade, responding to the style of neighbouring homes and the local vernacular. The rear of the home however is thoroughly modern. Contemporary, faceted forms of glass and brick open up the views to the garden and landscape beyond. The front and rear of the building are connected by a central, glazed section which floods light into the heart of the home. Three lightwells and a stairwell down to the basement level, provides a naturally lit connection between the two levels, increasing the sense of spaciousness. As one moves through the building there are always views out to the landscape, integrating the interior and exterior spaces and maximising their occupier’s enjoyment of the home year round.
